About Brainstorm Electronics

Brainstorm Electronics was founded in 1987 in Los Angeles, California, by 3 engineers interested in solving problems commonly found in recording studios but not always properly addressed by other manufacturers. Our first product, the TB-4 Communicator, a wireless talkback remote, became a huge success and has been in production for almost 20 years.

After designing several accessories for tape machines and recording consoles, we saw the need for time code solutions and a whole product line followed, including time code generators, reshapers, distributors and analyzers. Today, our SR-15+ Time Code Distripalyzer is a standard in many major post-production facilities.

From Time Code, to Machine Control, to Digital Clocks, our commitment has remained unchanged: to design innovative, high quality products that promote fast and efficient work flow in the studio.

Userreport Eastside Mastering Berlin - Brainstorm DCD-8

After a major refurbishing of our studio we decided also to invest in a new master clock and made a small shoot-out. In addition to two devices which are in the buzz at the moment, we also choose a Brainstorm DCD-8, being aware of it’s existence since the last AES. Frankly spoken we were a little bit surprised that the DCD-8 was even soundwise the most convincing one as it’s roots are more in the postproduction business, with several sophisticated features we probably never make use of as a plain mastering studio. The balance of precision and clarity vs. musical warmth had delighted us – and the possibility of synchronizing with two completely different sampling frequencies in variable groups we gladly take along as a technical encore.
